Topic: Understanding the Historical Significance and Value of Antiques and Heirlooms

Overview:  Experts Tanzy Ward and Sarah Reeder will share their insights and tips about how organizers can deepen their understanding of the historical signicance and value of antiques and heirlooms and quickly identify items of importance for their organizing clients.

This month's speaker is: Tanzy Ward and Sarah Reeder


Dedicated to historic preservation and education, Tanzy Ward is a passionate historian, book author, and antique dealer. She began her journey as a business owner, specializing in the preservation of antique heirlooms at Zanathia Jewelry. Her keen interest in antiquities and history has helped her gain extensive knowledge in the antique industry, which includes writing content on various historical events that are directly related to the decorative arts field. She is also dedicated to the preservation of Black Victorian material culture and updating the narrative of Black Americana memorabilia. She is the author of 'Hidden Legacies: African Presence in European Antiques' and 'Unsung Portraits: Anonymous Images of Black Victorians & Early 20th Century Ancestors'. A graduate of the Asheford Institute of Antiques, Tanzy earned her certication in antiques, collectibles, & appraising. She is a proud member of the Asheford Associate Membership Program & The American Society Of Jewelry Historians. Her love and fascination for various antiques and history have helped her gain knowledge and insight into historical collectibles. She seeks to educate, learn, and share her passion for history and antiques with others.

Sarah Reeder, AAA, ISA CAPP is a Certied Member of the Appraisers Association of America, a Certifed Member of the International Society of Appraisers with the Private Client Services designation, and a graduate of New York University's Program in Appraisal Studies in Fine & Decorative Arts. Sarah's company Artifactual History® Appraisal provides appraisal services of fine art, antiques, silver & decorative arts, and midcentury modern design for a wide range of intended uses including insurance and estate purposes. Previous clients include private collectors, corporations, institutions, embassies, lawyers, insurance professionals, and members of the diplomatic and military communities. Sarah is the creator of the self- paced online course SILVER 101: Quickly Learn How to Identify Your Sterling Silver and Silverplate to Find the Valuable Pieces and Sort with Empowered Confidence. In addition to leading her appraisal company, Sarah is Co-Editor of Worthwhile MagazineTM, a free online magazine featuring educational content about personal property appraising, art and antique connoisseurship, and collecting. Sarah is a specialist and scholar in Mid-Century Modern and 20th Century Design and the author of the book Ray Eames in 1930s New York.
